Technical SEO for Small Businesses

Technical SEO is the process of optimising your website to help search engines (like Google) find, crawl, understand and index your pages. The goal is to be found and to improve your page rankings.

Technical SEO is a term that covers a broad range of optimisations for your website that will help search engines crawl, render and index your website.

Remember the process of how search engines work from the SEO Basics course:

- You publish content on your website.
- Google bots or “spiders” crawl your website and review your page.
- Google indexes your page.
- If your page meets ranking criteria, Google will show it in its search results.

Search engines need to be able to find, crawl, render and index the pages on your website. You can have a great site with incredible content but if your technical SEO isn’t there it won’t be seen in search. But, don’t be intimidated. Until you have a massive website with thousands of pages, you can just focus on the basics. For now, you can think of it as organising your website.

This module covers the following technical SEO strategies:

1. Site structure
2. Page speed
3. Mobile friendliness
4. Duplicate content
5. Meta titles & descriptions
6. File names & alt text
7. URL Structure
8. Formatting headings

By implementing SEO WTF's specific Technical SEO strategies to their small business website, course participants will:

-Have greater visibility in search engine results
-Reach more potential customers online
-Have greater control over the success of their small business
-Understand how search engines work and how to use that to their advantage
